Late Friday afternoon a deal was struck between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Minnesota Twins. The deal reportedly took almost a week to complete, and both teams were very happy about the outcome despite the just-before-completion words uttered by Mgr. Karren, “I just want you to know, in real life I would never do this.”
The Cardinals get a top-shelf 1st Basemen who’s proven himself at the other hot corner, and the Twins get one of the best relievers in the game to work alongside Nathan. Also included in the trade were a couple minor leaguers, Scott Speizio who will take over at third for the Twins, and Scott Baker who will slide into a starting role with the Cardinals.
This is the first time someone from a farm team has been traded, and the first time a farm player has been promoted to play in a regular season game. I think.
While we had clear rules about only bringing up minor leaguers in the event of an injury, we never had any rules about trading minor leaguers to a team that would use them in their active roster…Thoughts?
That’s right, folks. Today is A. Bartlett Giamati’s birthday. Just kidding. Our boy Bri is way cooler than that guy and it is he whose birth we celebrate today (at least I’m pretty sure it’s today – it’s close if not today). Anyway, I think I speak for Champion’s League ptp’ers everywhere when I say that our pretend baseball league would not, could not, should not exist without him and his endless work on our behalf. Thank you once again for all you do. Fausto and I gave Bri our present yesterday evening, so we’re covered there;)
Just kidding. For your real present, Bri, I have arranged for Will Clark to come to your house, bake you a cake, and scream like a girl a few times. He also said he wants to have a sword fight, whatever that means (he’s kind of a weird duck, that Will). He just said it would give new meaning to his nickname “The Thrill”. Whatever – I’ll let the two of you sort that out. Have a great day, brah!!
That’s right, ladies, it’s true. The Hairys, as improbable as it seems, woke up this morning to find that they are still PTP champions. How long it takes for another team to man up and take the title from them remains to be seen, but if recent playptp.com activity is any indicator, the rest of the managers are content to remain curled in the fetal position whimpering for their mothers. And oh yes, I DID just say that.
ps. Manager Ockey urges ptp fans everywhere to check out Comissioner Utley’s recent blog post on his long and storied history with books. As you all know, Utley has a singular gift for writing – he manages to effortlessly and simply convey his thoughts and instill inspiration without even trying. I read that thing and I was scrambling for the nearest book just so I could start to try and be like Bri. Thank you Bri. Thank you Ted. For that 2021 Championship that you gave me.
